Welch Takes 6th in Hammer at USATF Championship

Junior Justin Welch competed in the hammer throw at the USATF Outdoor Championship on Thursday, June 26 at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, Calif.

Welch competed in the hammer throw at the meet, an event in which he captured a national championship for the Oilers in the spring, and took sixth place with a heave of 229'10.

The Luckey, Ohio native finished just behind Kent State's Matthias Tayala (230'04), the only other collegiate athlete in the top-6 during the event.

Kibwe Johnson of Nike New York won the event at 234'04.

Former UF track standout Stephanie Charnigo will compete in the 1,500-meter run at the event tomorrow.
