Oilers Wrap Up Day Two of Oiler Opener

The University of Findlay track and field teams hosted the day two of the Oiler Opener in the Malcolm Athletic Center on Saturday (Dec. 6).

Men:

Senior Dillon Webster collected a first place finish for Findlay as he won the 800 meter run, an event in which he finished runner-up at last year's indoor nationals, with a time of 1:53.57. That time met the NCAA provisional for the event. Senior Jacob Miller also ran in the event and took fourth with a time of 2:09.11.

Webster teamed up with sophomore Derek Collins, sophomore Maliik Briggs, and junior Kyle Smithey to collect a first place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The group finished with a time of 3:24.39.

Briggs also ran in the 200 meter dash and took second place with a time of 23.22 while Collins took sixth (23.83).

Briggs' other event was the 400 meter dash. The sophomore took second place with a time of 49.90.

Another first place finish came from senior Taylor Miller in the shot put. He won with an NCAA provisional throw of 60'01.25". Also earning an NCAA provisional in the event was sophomore Ben Hahler whose toss of 55'07.50" earned him second place behind Miller. Senior Justin Welch also competed in the event and took fourth (51'03.50") while junior Parker Schroeder took fifth (51'00.75").

In the men's 600 meter run freshman John Davis paced the Oilers with his time of 1:30.01 that earned him second place in the event. Close behind, in fourth place, was freshman teammate William Lee who finished the race in 1:33.67.

Senior Jacob Miller earned a second place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.75. Smithey ran a 8.76, earning him third place.

In the pole vault, junior Derek Spindler took third place as he soared to a height of 13'05.25" while teammate J. Miller took fifth with his height of 12'11.50".

Sophomore Alexander Zolotoglavyy did well in the long jump as he took third with a distance of 22'08.50".

Women:

Senior Pam Showman did well on her second day of competition as she took first place in the 60 meter hurdles with her time of 9.09.

Showman was also active in the 4x400 meter relay where she, along with junior Maud Sanmiquel, senior Taylor Ackerman, and senior Shelby Stump, took second place with a time of 4:05.96.

Stump also ran in the 400 meter dash and took second with a time of 1:00.88. Senior Kirsten Gaerke was also in the event and took third place with a time of 1:00.97.

Sanmiquel earned second place in the 600 meter run with her time of 1:41.73 while freshman Claire Crum's 1:46.68 earned fourth.

Ackerman took home first place in the long jump with her jump that reached a distance of 17'04.25" while freshman Milani Glass took fourth with a distance of 15'10.25".

The Oilers received another first place finish from junior Lydia Guagenti in high jump. Guagenti leaped to a height of 5'05.75".

Senior Kendra Averesch, who won the weight throw yesterday, took second in the shot put with her throw of 50'11.50". That toss was long enough to earn an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Nationals in March.

Sophomore Torie Allgire took third place in the pole vault as she reached a height of 9'05.75".

The Oilers will be back in action next Saturday (Dec. 10) as they send athletes to Kent, Ohio for the Doug Raymond Invitational and to Hillsdale, Michigan for the Hillsdale Winter Open.
