Welch, Averesch Earn GLIAC Weekly Honors

Senior Justin Welch and senior Kendra Averesch were tabbed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Male and Female Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, on Jan. 19.

Welch earned the award after taking first place in the weight throw at the Northwest Ohio Invitational on Jan. 16. He won the event with a NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 72'08.00, the top mark in all of NCAA Division II this season.

Welch also added a sixth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 51'03.00.

Averesch captured the award by taking first place in the shot put with a NCAA automatic qualifying heave of 53'07.00 at the Northwest Ohio Invitational. Her mark in the event is the best in NCAA Division II this year and it also broke her own school record.
