Former Track Star Charnigo Honored
Former UF track standout Stephanie Charnigo has been selected as the USA Track and Field (USATF) Open Athlete of the Month for January 2015.
Charnigo, a member of the New Jersey New York Track Club, opened her indoor season on Jan. 24 by winning the 1-mile at the New Balance Games (New York) in a time of 4:31.78. At the time it was the second fastest mark in the country. It currently is fourth on the 2015 U.S. indoor list. The following weekend, Charnigo ran 2:02.66 to finish fourth in the 800-meter at the Armory Invitational (New York). The time is also fourth on the 2015 list.
The Medina, Ohio native was a six-time NCAA Division II All-American for the Oilers and also had a hand in four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championships.
