Oilers Compete in Hillsdale at the Wide-Track Classic

The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field team competed at the Hillsdale "Wide-Track" Classic in Hillsdale, MI this weekend, Feb. 6-7.

Women

Senior Kendra Averesch shined and took home first place of 40 competitors in the shot put. Her throw of 48'11.75" meets the NCAA provisional in the event and also set a meet record. Averesch was not done there as she collected another first place in the weight throw. In that event, her throw of 59'11.25" was good enough for an NCAA provisional and also set a new meet record.

Also doing well in the weight throw were sophomore Erica King and sophomore Liz Streacker who finished in second and third with distances of 58'04.75" and 56'06.00", respectively. Both throws met the NCAA provisional in the event.

Senior Pam Showman earned a first place finish in the pentathlon with 3,511 points. That mark is an NCAA provisional, a meet record, and a Biermann Fieldhouse record. Showman's best event was the 800 meter run where she took first with a time of 2.26.6. Junior Lydia Guagenti also participated and placed in the event as her total of 3,324 points earned her third place, an NCAA provisional mark. Her best event was the high jump where she took first with a height of 5'08.50".

In the 400 meter dash, senior Kirsten Gaerke took third place with her time of 1:00.18.

Another top five finish for the Oilers came in the 4x400 meter relay where the team made up of junioe Maud Sanmiquel, freshman Laura Hernandez, Gaerke, and senior Shelby Stump combined to finish in a time of 3:58.34, good enough for fifth place of 12 teams.

Men

In the shot put, senior Taylor Miller took first place with an NCAA provisional distance of 56'10.25". In fourth place in the event was sophomore Ben Hahler who threw a distance of 54'08.00" and in fifth with a distance of 52'09.50" was senior Brian Jennings.

Senior Justin Welch earned another first place for the Oilers in the weight throw where he threw a distance of 70'01.50", a meet record and NCAA automatic qualifier. Miller took fourth in the event with his throw of 58'04.00" while Jennings had a throw of 57'00.00". Both of those were NCAA provisional qualifying throws.

Freshman Matias Trampe-Kindt took second place in the mile and finished in a time of 4:32.17.

In the 200 meter dash final, freshman Sergi Torres finished in fourth place with a time of 22.55. He also had a top five finish in the 400 meter dash where he finished third with a time of 49.05, an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Sophomore Maliik Briggs also ran the race and finished in fifth with a time of 49.97.

In the 800 meter run, senior Dillon Webster cruise to a third place finish with his time of 1:51.74, an NCAA provisional time.

Also earning a third place finish was freshman Michael Bruce whose distance of 23'06.00" met an NCAA provisional in the long jump. Bruce's best event, however, was the triple jump where he finished in first place with a meet record and NCAA provisional distance of 49'08.50". Finishing in second place in that event was sophomore Alexander Zolotoglavyy who also met an NCAA provisional with his distance of 49'02.25".

The 4x400 meter relay team of Briggs, Torres, sophomore Derek Collins, and Webster combined to finish in second place with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:19.09.

Both teams will be back in action next Friday and Satruday, Feb. 13-14 for the Valentine Invitational held in Boston, Massachusetts.
