Findlay Competes at Dick Small Meet

Defiance, OH – The University of Findlay track and field team traveled north to take part in the Dick Small Meet on Monday, April 6. The meet was hosted by the Defiance College Yellow Jackets.

Women

Kendra Averesch set new stadium and meet records in the shot put. Her throw of 49'05.00" was good enough to earn her a first place finish and an NCAA provisional mark in the meet. Liz Streacker also competed and took seventh with a throw of 37'07.75".

Averesch also won in the discus throw as she set a new meet record with a throw of 143'07". Streacker took second in that event with her toss of 135'11" and Erica King's throw of 127'05" earned her fourth.

The hammer throw featured each of these athletes again as King, Averesch, and Streacker finished fourth (171'01"), fifth (166'10"), and sixth (157'11") , respectively.  King and Averesch met NCAA provisionals in the event.

Men

Taylor Miller finished in second place in the shot put and met an NCAA provisional with his throw of 58'05.25". Mathieu Marcoccia finished close behind with his toss of 58'01.75", good enough for a provisional and a third place finish. Finishing in fourth was Ben Hahler with a throw of 54'11.25" while Justin Welch's throw of 51'07.25" earned him fifth.

These athletes were also busy in the discus throw where Welch took home first place. His throw of 166'04" met the NCAA provisional mark. In third place with a throw of 158'05" was Miller while Hahler took fifth with his distance of 155'01".

Welch's final event was the hammer throw where he automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship with a throw that measured 218'08". That toss set new stadium and meet records. Miller also competed in this event and took fifth with a throw of 175'08".

In the pole vault, Derek Spindler took third place with a jump of 13'11.25", just missing the provisional mark.

The Oilers will be back on the track this Friday, April 10, as they travel to Oxford, OH for the All-Ohio Championship meet.
