Men Finish 4th and Women Finish 5th at All-Ohio Invite
Oxford, OH – On Saturday, April 11, the University of Findlay track and field team participated in the second day of the All-Ohio Track & Field Championships hosted by Miami University. The men's team finished with a team score of 118, good enough for fourth place while the women finished in fifth with a score of 85.
Women
Junior Maud Sanmiquel brought home a first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles as she finished with a time of 1:02.56. She also competed in the 100 meter hurdles and took eighth with a time of 14.94.
Senior Taylor Ackerman also earned a first place finish as she met a provisional mark in the long jump with a distance of 19'02.00". She also participated in the triple jump and took third with a distance of 34'07.50
Two athletes earned provisional marks in the heptathlon as senior Pam Showman and junior Lydia Guagenti took first and second, scoring 4,996 and 4,651 points, respectively.
Guagenti continued her success in the high jump as she jumped to a height of 5'06" which earned her second place and an NCAA provisional mark.
In the shot put, senior Kendra Averesch earned a provisional mark with her throw of 50'02", good enough for third place. She earned another provisional mark in the discus throw with a toss of 145'06". That throw earned her fourth place. Also in the discus throw was sophomore Liz Streacker. She took sixth place with a throw that measured 141'00".
In the 4x100 meter relay, the Oilers team of Ackerman, freshman Brittney Archer, freshman Laura Hernandez, and Sanmiquel sprinted to a fourth place finish with a time 48.96. Hernandez and Sanmiquel were participants in the 4x400 meter relay as well and combined with Showman and Shelby Stump and ran to a time of 3:54.66, good enough for second place.
Hernandez finished in fifth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.60. Also in the race was senior Shelby Stump, who took tenth with a time of 58.55.
In the 800 meter run, junior Samantha Grippe's time of 2:15.83 and took sixth place.
Sophomore Melanie Ruich competed in the 5,000 meter run and finished in seventh with a time of 18:13.98.
Men
The Oilers tripled up in the triple jump as junior Michael Bruce took first with a provisional distance of 49'02.25", senior Demorrio Leggett took second with a provisional distance of 48'11.50", and sophomore Alexander Zolotoglavyy took third with a distance of 44'10.25".
In the 400 meter dash, freshman Sergi Torres took second place with a time of 48.42. Also in the race was sophomore Maliik Briggs. He took third place with a time of 49.09.
Torres, Briggs, sophomore Derek Collins, and senior Dillon Webster teamed up for a second place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The team finished with a time of 3:15.85.
Another second place finish came from senior Taylor Miller in the shot put. His throw of 61'06.75" was an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championship meet. A provisional distance was met by sophomore Ben Hahler who finished in fourth with a toss of 55'03.00".
The discus throw saw a trio of Oilers earn provisional marks. Senior Justin Welch took third (168'00"), Hahler took fourth (167'10"), and senior Brian Jennings took seventh (164'09")
In pole vault action, junior Derek Spindler jumped to a height of 14'01.25"
Webster finished with a time of 1:52.49 in the 800 meter dash. That time was good enough for fourth place.
The team of Briggs, Torres, Collins, and senior Jake Miller combined in the 4x100 meter relay and took 6th with a time of 43.37.
The Oilers are back on the track next Saturday, April 18, as they travel to Ada, OH for the Polar Bear Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University.
