Oilers Compete on Day 1 of Penn Relays
Philadelphia, PA – The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field team traveled to Pennsylvania for the Penn Relays for three days of competition beginning on Thursday, April 23. The Penn Relays are the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States and has been running since 1895. More than 15,000 athletes from various high schools and colleges across the country gather to compete in more than 300 events.
Women
Kendra Averesch took fifth of 10 competitors in the shot put championship. Her throw of 50'9.25" was just short of the automatic mark, earning a provisional. She also earned a provisional mark as she took part in the hammer throw where she took seventh place with a toss of 173'11".
In the high jump, Lydia Guagenti took 12th place with a leap that measured 5'06", the provisional mark. There were more than 40 competitors in the event.
Maud Sanmiquel competed in the 400 meter hurdles and finished 19th in a field of 57 with a time of 1:02.23. That time is good enough to meet the provisional in the event.
