First Day of Findlay Classic Comes to a Close

The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams hosted Day 1 of the Findlay Classic at the Malcolm Athletic Center on Friday, Jan. 29th.

Women

Senior Lydia Guagenti performed well in the pentathlon, as she secured first place in the event and met the NCAA provisional with 3,574 points.  Within the event, Guagenti met the NCAA provisional and placed first in the high jump (5'08.50").  That jump tied her with the #1 mark in NCAA Division II.  In the pentathlon, she also placed first in the long jump (17'09.75"), second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.22), second in the shot put (33'05.25"), and fifth in the 800 meter run (2:39.04).

In the 5000 meter run, junior Melanie Ruich earned first place with a time of 18:34.16 and senior Meredith Hoops placed fifth at 19:24.27.

The distance medley team featuring senior Erica Bettac, senior Maud Sanmiquel, senior Samantha Grippe, and sophomore Taylor Bolinger finished second place after finishing at the 12:31.42 mark.

Junior Torie Allgire cleared 9'09.25" in the pole vault to earn ninth place.

In the weight throw, three Oilers met the NCAA provisional.  Junior Erica King placed third with a heave of 57'09.50", junior Liz Streacker finished right behind her at fourth after a 57'05.75" toss, and sophomore Alex DeVincentis claimed seventh after throwing 54'08.00".

Men

The distance medley team consisting of freshman Troy Schultz, junior Maliik Briggs, sophomore Sergi Torres, and fellow sophomore Matias Trampe-Kindt finished fourth place after a time of 10:47.46.

Freshman Jonathan Allen earned fourth place in the 5000 meter run after finishing at 15:57.96 and junior Aaron Cingle grabbed ninth place at the 17:08.27 mark.

In the weight throw, freshman Austin Combs met the NCAA provisional and placed third with a 58'02.00" toss and junior Ben Hahler also met the NCAA provisional after claiming fifth and throwing 56'08.00".  Junior Mitch Adkins just missed the NCAA provisional after heaving it 56'04.50" and earning sixth place.

The Findlay classic continues Saturday, Jan. 30th in the Malcolm Athletic Center at the University of Findlay with the men's heptathlon beginning at 9:30am, field events starting at 10:30am, and prelims for the running events commencing at 12:10pm.
