Guagenti Wins Field Athlete of the Week

Findlay, OH - It is hard to imagine Friday's Findlay Classic going any better for University of Findlay senior Lydia Guagenti, who today earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Field Athlete of the Week. Guagenti, as a multi event athlete, participated in each of the five events in the pentathlon. In those events she earned two first place finishes, two second place finishes, and a fifth place finish, as well as setting three new personal records. Strangely, Guagenti's best performance came in one of the events in which she did not PR.

In the high jump, the Bluffton, Ohio native cleared 5'08.50", almost five inches higher than the next closest competitor. With the jump, Guagenti secured first in the event, and tied what was, at the time, the best mark in the nation this year. That height is currently the second-best in DII this season as Emilee Iverson of Pittsburg St. cleared 5'9.25" the same day.

The other victory for Guagenti came in the long jump pit as she took first with a personal record of 17'9.75". That distance was 5.75" further than the nearest competitor.

Her final PR came in the shot put where her toss of 33'5.25" placed her in second in that part of the competition.

When all was said and done, Guagenti had racked up 3,574 points in the heptathlon, which was good enough to meet the NCAA provisional for the event and set yet another personal record.

This is the second GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honor this season for Guagenti.
