Oilers Host Findlay Open and 8th Annual Elite Throws Competition

On Friday, Feb. 12th, The University of Findlay men and women's track and field teams hosted the Findlay Open and the 8th Annual Elite Throws Competition in the Malcolm Athletic Center.

Women

In the 60 meter dash, a trio of Oilers finished 1, 2, 3 with freshman Madison Stechshulte claiming the title (7.86), senior Maud Sanmiquel finishing second (7.94), and sophomore Milani Glass receiving third (7.95).

Sanimquel also participated in the 200 meter dash where she took home the gold in 25.85 and freshman Symphony Cooke earned third at the 27.35 mark.

The 800 meter run featured senior McKenzie Mahlmeister finishing in second with a time of 2:33.33 and sophomore Claire Crum finishing fourth in a time of 2:39.98.

Senior Lydia Guagenti placed third in the hurdles after crossing the finishing line at the 9.38 mark.

Guagenti also competed in the long jump where she took first place and met the NCAA provisional after a leap of 18'7.00".  Glass competed as well and finished third with a jump of 17'4.75".

In the triple jump, Glass finished fourth after covering a distance of 35'9.25".

In the pole vault, junior Torie Allgire claimed third place after clearing 10'10.00", junior Victoria Burt received fifth place after vaulting to a height of 9'10.00", and sophomore Andrea Lohr was right behind finishing sixth at a height of 9'4.25".

Throws

In the shot put, freshman Holly Averesch claimed first place and met the NCAA provisional mark after a toss of 46'9.50".  Junior Liz Streacker also provo'd and came in third after a 46'3.25" heave.  Freshman Sabrina Bailey placed sixth in the event after a 41'0.25" throw.

Sophomore Alex DeVincentis claimed gold in the weight throw and met the NCAA provisional mark after a heave of 59'7.75" and Averesch received fifth after a toss of 51'9.75".

Elite Throws

The Elite Throws featured an invite only competition among athletes.  The Oilers were represented in the Elite shot put by sophomore DeVincentis who met the NCAA provisional mark and earned eighth after a 48'6.75" toss.

In the Elite weight throw, junior Erica King met the NCAA provisional mark and claimed fifth after a throw of 59'10.25".

Men

Sophomore Trey Everett met the NCAA provisional mark in the high jump and came out on top after clearing a height of 6'9.00".

Senior Derek Spindler met the NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault and claimed second after clearing a height of 16'00.00".

Junior Derek Collins came in first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.04 and freshman Zach Jellison earned a close second finishing at 23.12.  Freshman Jaye Williams received sixth at 23.35 and freshman Khalil Capers came in seventh at the 23.48 mark.

Williams came in third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.06, followed by Jellison in sixth (7.31), and Collins in seventh (7.37).

In the triple jump, freshman Jordan Davis earned fourth after leaping a distance of 39'4.50" and Capers finished fifth at 38'9.75".

In the 400 meter dash, freshman George Bauer took second place with a time of 52.53.

The 800 meter run featured freshman Troy Schultz who earned second place crossing the finishing line at 2:00.37. 

Freshman Austin Guthrie came in second in the mile run after finishing in 4:51.51.

Freshman Tyler Beck competed in the 3000 meter run and finished with a time of 9:07.20 to claim fifth.

The 4x400 meter relay consisting of Jellison, Bauer, Schultz, and Guthrie took third place with a time of 3:39.86.

Throws

In the shot put, senior Parker Schroeder came in fourth place after a toss of 51'7.75".

Junior Mitch Adkins earned sixth in the weight throw with a heave of 55'9.75" and freshman Austin Combs was seventh with a 55'8.25" throw.

Elite Throws

The Elite Throws featured an invite only competition among athletes.  The Oilers were represented in the Elite shot put by junior Ben Hahler, who met the NCAA provisional mark and claimed fourth place with a throw of 56'05.75".

 

There were also some Oiler athletes competing at Grand Valley State University tonight.

Senior Samantha Grippe earned second place and met the NCAA provisional mark in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.35.

Junior Sergi Torres finished second in the 400 meter run and met the NCAA provisional with a time of 47.77.  Freshman George Effah also provo'd in the event at claimed sixth with a time of 48.33.

The Oilers return to the track on Friday, Feb. 19th as they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Buckeye Tune-Up.
