GLIAC Championships Underway

The University of Findlay men and women track and field teams traveled to Tiffin University on Saturday, Feb. 27th for Day 1 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Women

Senior Lydia Guagenti brought home 1st place in the women's pentathlon and met the NCAA provisional mark after scoring 3,708 points.  Within the pentathlon, she placed 4th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.13), 1st in the high jump (5'08.75"), 4th in the shot put (34'08.50"), 8th in the long jump (17'05.50), and 3rd in the 800 meter run (2:29.90).

Sophomore Laura Hernandez advanced to the finals of the 400 meter dash after a 4th place finish in the prelims with a time of 56.51.

In the weight throw, junior Erica King earned 3rd place and met the NCAA provisional with a 60'10.50" throw, junior Liz Streacker claimed 7th and provo'd after a heave of 59'9.00", and sophomore Alex DeVincentis grabbed 11th and also provo'd after a toss of 58'02.00."

Sophomore Milani Glass and senior Maud Sanmiquel qualified for the finals and met the NCAA provisional mark in the 60 meter hurdles prelims.  Glass finished with a time of 8.65 while Sanmiquel ran it in 8.73.

Sanmiquel also qualified for the finals in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.34 in the prelims.  Freshman Madison Stechshulte qualified as well with a time of 25.80.

Stechshulte also qualified for the finals in the 60 meter dash after an 8th place finish with a time of 7.75 in the prelims.

Glass finished 11th in the long jump at 17'06.75 and Guagenti was close behind at 14th with a distance of 17'03.25".

Junior Torie Allgire came in 10th in the pole vault after clearing a height of 10'06.25."

In the 5000 meter run, senior Meredith Hoops claimed 15th with a time of 18:30.57 and junior Melanie Ruich finished 17th with a time of 18:30.92.

After six events scored, the women stand in 4th place with 18 points.

Men

In the long jump, sophomore Trey Everett claimed 3rd and met the NCAA provisional mark after a 23'10.75" leap.  Sophomore Michael Bruce earned himself a 5th place finish and also provo'd with a 23'10.00" jump and junior Alexander Zolotoglavyy finished 6th and provo'd after covering a distance of 23'05.50".

Sophomore Sergi Torres and freshman George Effah qualified for the finals of the 400 meter dash after Torres finished 1st with a time of 48.94 and Effah finished 3rd with a time of 49.72.

In the weight throw, freshman Austin Combs met the NCAA provisional mark after a 10th place finish and a toss of 58'10.25".

Freshman Jonathan Allen finished 15th in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:47.81.

In the 200 meter dash, freshman Jaye Williams qualified for the finals after finishing 8th in the prelims with a time of 22.60.

After 4 events scored, the men stand in 6th place with 13 points.

The University of Findlay track and field teams return to Tiffin University for Day 2 of the GLIAC Championships on Sunday, Feb. 28th.
