Findlay Competes on Day 2 of GLIAC Championships

It was a beautiful day on Sunday, Feb. 28th for The University of Findlay men and women track and field teams to compete at Tiffin University for Day 2 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Women

Senior Samantha Grippe earned silver in the 800 meter run after a time of 2:13.09, which met the NCAA provisional mark.

In the high jump, senior Lydia Guagenti met the NCAA provisional mark and finished 2nd after leaping 5'07.25."

Freshman Holly Averesch grabbed 2nd in the shot put and met the NCAA provisional mark with a toss of 47'08.50" and junior Liz Streacker received 9th after a 43'00.25" throw. Averesch was also named the GLIAC Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet for her performance at the championship event.

Sophomore Milani Glass claimed 3rd and met the NCAA provisional mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.70 while senior teammate Maud Sanmiquel earned 5th and also provo'd with a time of 8.83.

Sanimiquel would also compete in the 200 meter dash and claim 3rd with a time of 25.32.

Glass finished 10th in the triple jump after covering a distance of 34'11.00."

In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Laura Hernandez finished in 4th place with a time of 57.30.

Freshman Madison Stechshulte earned 8th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.81.

The 4x400 meter relay, featuring Sanimiquel, Stechshulte, Grippe, and Hernandez finished 5th with a time of 3:54.38.

In the mile run, senior Erica Bettac finished 15th with a time of 5:24.48.

The University of Findlay women's team finished 4th with a total of 68 points.

Men

Sophomore Michael Bruce stamped his name in The University of Findlay Indoor Track and Field record books with his performance in the triple jump.  Bruce earned 1st place and met the NCAA automatic qualifying mark with a 51'03.50" jump.  The previous indoor triple jump record for The University of Findlay was set back in 1997 by Steve Reid with a distance of 50'03.25".

Junior Alexander Zolotoglavyy also competed in the triple jump and finished 5th and met the NCAA provisional mark after covering a distance of 48'02.50"

In the high jump, sophomore Trey Everett brought home the silver with a 2nd place jump and NCAA provisional height of 6'09.75."

Junior Ben Hahler earned 3rd place and met the NCAA provisional mark in the shot put with a toss of 57'10.25" and senior Parker Schroeder finished 16th with a distance of 48'01.25."

In the pole vault, senior Derek Spindler met the NCAA provisional and received 3rd place for his efforts after vaulting to a height of 16'07.50."

Sophomore Sergi Torres claimed 5th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.62 and freshman George Effah grabbed 7th with a time of 50.46.

The 4x400 meter relay consisting of Effah, junior Derek Collins, junior Maliik Briggs, and Torres grabbed the bronze with a 3rd place time of 3:19.37.

In the 200 meter dash, freshman Jaye Williams claimed 7th after a time of 22.89.

In the 800 meter run, freshman Troy Schultz finished 17th with a time of 2:00.42.

In the mile run, freshman Tyler Beck finished 15th with a time of 4:33.61 and freshman Austin Guthrie finished 21st with a time of 4:47.84.

The University of Findlay men's team finished 5th with a total of 61 points.

Qualified athletes from The University of Findlay track and field teams will return to action to compete at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Friday, March 11th and Saturday, March 12th in Pittsburg, Kansas.
