Oilers Finish Indoor Season

The University of Findlay men and women track and field teams traveled to Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships on Saturday, March 12th.  Fifteen athletes competed over the two day event.  School records were broken and numerous athletes reached All-American status.  The men finished in 21st place with 10.25 points and the women finished in 24th place with 10.5 points.

Men

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) champion in the triple jump, sophomore Michael Bruce, continued to perform well in the spotlight.  Bruce earned All-American honors and a runner-up finish in the triple jump.  He covered a distance of 52'4.50", which is a new school record, besting his previous record of 51'03.50, set earlier this year at the GLIAC Championships.

Sophomore Trey Everett also earned All-American status after finishing 8th in the high jump after clearing a height of 6'9".

The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of freshman George Effah, juniors Derek Collins and Maliik Briggs and sophomore Sergi Torres, earned All-American honors and finished 7th with a time of 3:11.69, which broke the school record of 3:12.32 set by last year's team.

In the pole vault, senior Derek Spindler finished in 11th place after vaulting to a height of 15'7.25".

Junior Ben Hahler competed in his second consecutive D-II Championship meet in the shot put.  Hahler finished 14th with a throw of 54'5.25".

Women

The 800 meter run featured senior Samantha Grippe, who earned runner up in the event at the GLIAC Championships.  Grippe earned All-American honors after finishing 6th with a time of 2:10.74.

Sophomore Alex DeVincentis also earned All-American honors after she claimed 4th place in the shot put with a 50'2.75" heave.

Freshman Holly Averesch, who earned GLIAC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, also competed in the shot put and finished 16th with a throw of 44'6.25".

Senior Lydia Guagenti competed in the pentathlon and earned 12th with a total of 3,668 points scored.  Her best finish came in the high jump portion of the event where she won the event with a jump of 5'9.25", which ties her own school record she set last year at the Division II National Championships meet.
