Oilers Jump Nine Spots to Number 5 in DII

USTFCCCA Release

Findlay, OH – After a second weekend of competition, the University of Findlay women's outdoor track and field team leaped up the national ranking to number five in the nation and number one in the Midwest region, while the men has burst into the top-25 and find themselves ranked 16th after being unranked a week ago.

Women

The Oilers are one of three teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in the top 25, the most of any conference in the country.

Senior Lydia Guagenti's performance at last weekend's Raleigh Relays is a big reason for the jump in ranking as she reached a height of 5'8.75", the second-best jump in the country this season and one inch shy of her personal best, which she set at last season's Polar Bear Invitational on April 18.

Sophomore Alex DeVincentis, who recently earned all-American status in the indoor season, is in second in the nation with her shot put performance from the Wake Forest Open which took place on March 18. That heave measured 49'10.5". In the same event, junior Liz Streacker, also an indoor all-American, had a throw of 44'9.75" that earned her a spot as the 14th best throw in DII this season.

DeVincentis was not done after the shot put as her discus throw of 155'10" is good for number three in the nation this season.

Streacker also had another top performance as her hammer throw of 184'1" is fourth in the country this year. In that event, junior Erica King has the fifth best throw in DII with a 183'11".

Senior Maud Sanmiquel had a top-ten performance in the 400 meter hurdle as her time of 1:01.67, set at the Raleigh Relays, is good for ninth in DII.

Men

Leading the way for the Findlay men is senior Michael Bruce who had a spectacular performance in Raleigh over the weekend. His best performance came in the triple jump where he reached a distance of 51'7.75" which is the best in the country in DII this season. His long jump performance was also noteworthy as he picked up the second-best jump in the country with a distance of 24'6.25".

Also making an impact was the performance in the high jump by junior Trey Everett. Everett cleared a height of 6'8.75" which was good for the sixth best in the country.

Sophomores George Effah and Sergi Torres competed in the 400 meter dash and picked up the 11th and 13th best times in DII this season with times of 47.66 and 47.75, respectively.

The next event for the Oilers track and field teams with be on April 1-2 when they travel to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Duals.
