Oilers Complete Border Battle

The University of Findlay men and women track and field teams traveled to Hillsdale, Mich. for the Border Battle at Hillsdale College on Saturday, April 16th.  Participating teams included: Hillsdale College, Saginaw Valley State University, Northern Michigan University, and Tiffin University.

Women's Results

In the 100 meter dash, freshman Madison Stechshulte finished 1st with a time of 12.36.  She also earned 1st place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.78.

Senior Samantha Grippe also brought home a 1st place finish on the day.  She finished the 800 meter run with a NCAA provisional time of 2:11.81 to take gold.  Senior McKenzie Mahlmeister, 10th at the 2:30.53 mark, and sophomore Claire Crum, 12th at 2:38.13, also participated in the event.

In the 100 meter hurdles, sophomore Milani Glass earned 1st and met the NCAA provisional mark with a time of 14.02.  Senior Maud Sanmiquel also provo'd with a 3rd place finish of 14.21.

The 4x100 meter relay team featuring freshman Symphony Cooke, Sanmiquel, Glass, and Stechshulte finished 1st and met the NCAA provisional mark with a time of 46.21.  This time also sets a new school record for the outdoor season.  The previous record of 46.50 was set in 2008 by Kirby Blackley, Pamela Bullock, Shannon Williamson, and Stephanie Charnigo.

Sophomore Laura Hernandez placed 2nd in the 400 meter dash after crossing the finish line at the 56.98 mark.

The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Sanmiquel, Glass, Grippe, and Hernandez also captured 1st place with a NCAA provisional time of 3:48.45.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, senior Erica Bettac collected 3rd with a time of 11:29.70.

Junior Torie Allgire claimed 3rd in the pole vault with a height of 3.07m.

In the 1500 meter run, sophomore Taylor Bolinger earned 5th with a time of 4:52.71 and junior Melanie Ruich grabbed 6th with a time of 4:52.84.

Senior Meredith Hoops came in at the 18:55.48 mark in the 5000 meter run, which was good enough for 3rd.  Freshman Torrie Purdy also competed in the event and placed 6th at 20:55.87.

Women's Throws

In the shot put, sophomore Alex DeVincentis continued to perform well with a 1st place finish with a NCAA provisional toss of 14.90m.  Also competing in the shot put was sophomore Dawn Freeland (5th, 13.00m), junior Liz Streacker (5th, 13.00m), freshman Holly Averesch (7th, 12.76m), freshman Sabrina Bailey (14th, 11.07m), and freshman Megan Lyons (15th, 10.49m).

DeVincentis also won the discus throw and met the NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 46.13m.  Averesch (4th, 42.96m), Streacker (5th, 40.45m), Lyons (8th, 37.77m), Freeland (9th, 37.60m), and Bailey (11th, 32.53m) also competed in the discus throw.

In the hammer throw, junior Erica King continued to excel.  She finished 1st with a NCAA automatic bid to the outdoor championships after a toss of 59.82m.  That mark currently ranks second in the nation in NCAA Division II.

Streacker also competed in the hammer throw and met the NCAA provisional mark with a distance of 53.04m.  DeVincentis (7th, 47.96m) and Bailey (11th, 39.73m) participated in the event as well.

Men's Results

Junior Trey Everett collected 1st place with a NCAA provisional jump of 2.11m in the high jump.  That mark currently ranks him third in the nation.  Everett also competed in the javelin throw where he placed 3rd with a distance of 47.59m.

Senior Michael Bruce brought home a 1st place finish as well.  His came in the long jump where he leaped a distance of 7.16m.  Junior Alexander Zolotaglavvy finished 2nd with a jump of 7.05m and freshman Jordan Davis claimed 6th at 6.22m.

Davis also competed in the triple jump where he finished 3rd after covering a distance of 13.26m.

In the 100 meter dash, freshman George Bauer earned 3rd with a time of 11.44.  Bauer also competed in the 200 meter dash and finished 10th at the 22.79 mark.

Sophomore Sergi Torres claimed 3rd in the 400 meter dash at 48.00.  Sophomore George Effah (6th, 49.98), freshman Zach Jellison (8th, 50.80), and junior Derek Collins (11th, 51.14) also competed in the 400 meter dash.

In the 800 meter run, freshman Troy Schultz grabbed 7th at 2:00.44 and sophomore Matias Trampe-Kindt placed 8th with a time of 2:01.07.

Trampe-Kindt also competed in the 1500 meter run where he finished 3rd at the 4:01.86 mark.  Freshman Ty Gleason finished 7th (4:13.36) and freshman Jonathan Allen claimed 8th (4:13.65) in the event.

In the 5000 meter run, freshman Michael Taylor earned 2nd with a time of 17:00.89.

Junior Aaron Cingle competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase where he finished 2nd at the 10:30.30 mark.  Freshman Austin Guthrie placed 3rd with a time of 10:51.38.

The 4x400 meter relay team featuring Effah, Collins, Bauer, and Torres earned 3rd with a time of 3:23.03.

Men's Throws

Junior Ben Hahler earned 3rd in the shot put with a NCAA provisional toss of 17.89m.  That mark currently ranks Hahler fourth in the nation.  Also competing in the shot put was senior Parker Schroeder (5th, 15.39m), junior Mitch Adkins (7th, 14.64m), and freshman Jordan Brown (10th, 10.74m).

In the discus throw, Hahler placed 2nd with a toss of 49.13m, Schroeder earned 4th with a heave of 44.77m, sophomore Garrett Garnder claimed 7th with a throw of 43.31m, and Brown finished 12th with a distance of 34.78m.

Freshman Austin Combs earned 3rd in the hammer throw with a NCAA provisional throw of 54.96m.  Hahler finished 5th (50.42m) and Gardner placed 6th (48.33m) in the event.

The Oilers track and field teams are back in action on Friday, April 22nd and Saturday, April 23rd in Columbus, Ohio for the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State University.
