Track Competes on Day One of GLIAC Championships

The University of Findlay men and women track and field teams traveled to Big Rapids, Mich. for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Ferris State University.  The meet began Wednesday, May 4th and will conclude on Friday, May 6th.

The first day of the meet consisted of portions of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.  Senior Lydia Guagenti was the only Oiler to compete on the first day in the heptathlon.

Guagenti competed in four events today and will finish up the remaining events on Thursday, May 5th.  Guagenti's best finish of the day came in the high jump, where she claimed 1st place and set a new GLIAC Championship meet record in heptathlon portion of the high jump, after soaring to a height of 5'8.75".  This mark meets the NCAA provisional and currently ranks her 2nd in the country. 

The senior from Bluffton, Ohio would also place 1st in the 200 meter dash after crossing the finish line in 25.58 seconds.  In the 100 meter hurdles, she placed 2nd with a time of 14.78 and Guagenti also competed in the shot put and finished 4th with a distance measuring 32'6.50".

The second day of the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will continue at Ferris State University on Thursday, May 5th.  Guagenti is set to continue competing in the heptathlon at 9:30am, while the running event prelims and field events are set to begin at 2:30pm.
