Oilers Compete at Aquinas and Hillsdale

Grand Rapids, MI – On Wednesday, May 11, the University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Aquinas Twilight Meet and on Thursday, followed up with the Hillsdale Classic on Thursday, May 12.

Aquinas Twilight Meet (Results)

Women

Sophomore Alex DeVincentis, after earning a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championship in discus just last week, took top honors in multiple events on Wednesday. She won the discus, an event in which she has qualified for the NCAA DII National Championship, with a throw of 159'1". She also won the shot put with a throw of 48'11.75", about one foot shy of her season-best.

Freshman Holly Averesch also participated in each of those events and took fifth in each. In the discus she reached a distance of 130'03" and in the shot put, her throw measured 42'0".

Junior Erica King, who also is a GLIAC Champion, won her best event, the hammer throw, with a throw of 193'7". That throw is good to meet the NCAA provisional mark, although she has already qualified for the national championship meet. Junior Liz Streacker also participated in the hammer throw and took second place with a throw of 179'11". That too is good enough to meet provisional standards.

Men

Freshman Austin Combs had a good performance in the hammer throw, bringing home first place in the event. He won with a throw of 197'7", a personal-best and a provisional qualifying throw.

Junior Ben Hahler's throw of 57'7.5" in the shot put earned him second place while his throw of 156'7" in the discus was good for third. His shot put throw is a provisional qualifier.

Hillsdale Meet (Results)

Women

Sophomore Milani Glass competed in the 100 meter hurdles and, after an NCAA provisional time of 13.89 in the prelims, raced to a time of 14.14 in the finals. That time earned her third place Iin the event. Senior Lydia Guagenti also raced and took eighth in the finals with a 14.90.

Glass then teamed up with senior Maud Sanmiquel, sophomore Laura Hernandez, and freshman Madison Stechschulte in the 4x100 meter relay. The group took fourth in the event with a time of 47.44.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Sanmiquel, Glass, senior Samantha Grippe, and Hernandez faired better as they were able to finish as runners-up in the race with a time of 3:45.72. That time meets the NCAA provisional standard in the race.

Men

The best individual performance for the men at Hillsdale came from junior Trey Everett in the high jump. He was able to reach a height of 6'11", or 2.11 meters. That height is just .03 meters from the automatic qualifying height but ties his jump from the Hillsdale meet in April as the fourth best jump Iin the country this year.

Sophomore Sergi Torres, junior Derek Collins, freshman Zach Jellison, and sophomore George Effah just missed the provisional in the 4x400 meter relay as they came in with a time of 3:14.51, good for thrid place.

Sophomore Matias Trampe-Kindt took part in the 1,500 meter run, finishing in seventh of 17 competitors with a time of 4:00.73.

The team will be at the Grand Valley State 'Last Chance' Meet on May 13-14 to wrap up their regular season.
