Vicars Takes Job at BGSU

Findlay, OH – University of Findlay assistant track and field coach Derrick Vicars has announced that he will resign from his position as throws coach. He has accepted a new position at Bowling Green State University, an NCAA Division-I school competing in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), as throws coach.

In his time at Findlay, Vicars has coached five NCAA Division-II national champions as well as a total of 17 all-Americans. For his efforts in 2015, he was honored by the USTFCCCA as the nation's Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year.

As a coach at Findlay, Vicars guided four male athletes and four female athlets to all-American status in indoor with four male and four females earning all-American in outdoor seasons. This includes thrower Justin Welch who won four national titles and was named the 2015 Division II National Athlete of the Year.

As an athlete for the Oilers, Vicars garnered multiple awards including 2012 and 2013 GLIAC Field Athlete of the Year and 2012 and 2013 Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year. He also won a pair of national championships in his career as he earned the country's top spot in the shot put in 2012 and won the discus in 2010.
