Oilers Wrap-Up Oiler Opener
The University of Findlay track and field teams wrapped up competition on day two of the Oiler Opener in the Malcolm Athletic Complex in Findlay, Ohio on Saturday, December 10.
Men's Results
Three Oilers finished in the top ten of the shot put. Senior Ben Hahler took 1st with a NCAA provisional throw of 17.69m, sophomore Austin Combs earned 2nd with a distance of 15.30m, and senior Mitch Adkins placed 6th at 13.71m.
Junior Trey Everett earned 1st in the heptathlon with a NCAA provisional mark of 5,019 points, which is a new UF Indoor record. The previous record of 4,624 points was set by Jacob Boettner in 2011. After two first place and two second place finishes on the first day, Everett finished 2nd in the 1000 meter run, 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles, and 5th in the pole vault.
In the 600 meter run, junior Sergi Torres took 1st place with a time of 1:22.10.
Sophomore George Effah captured a 1st place finish in the 300 meter dash with a time of 35.09 and freshman Lenell Shelby III collected 2nd at the 36.15 mark.
In the 60 meter dash, Shelby III earned 3rd with a time of 7.08 and sophomore Khalil Capers finished 7th at the 7.26 mark.
Capers also took 8th in the long jump with a distance of 6.12m.
Senior Derek Collins finished 3rd in the 400 meter dash at 51.28 and freshman Kurt Grieger claimed 5th with a time of 51.69.
In the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Jonte Florence earned 6th with a time of 8.78.
The 4x400 meter relay featuring Torres, Collins, Greiger, and Effah captured 1st place with a time of 3:23.32. The time was good enough for a NCAA provisional mark.
Women's Results
In the 300 meter dash, junior Laura Hernandez finished in 1st and claimed a new fieldhouse record with a time of 40.48. The old record was set in 2009 by Amanda Kaverman from the University of Toledo.
Junior Alex DeVincentis earned 2nd in the shot put with a NCAA provisional mark of 14.75m. Sophomore Holly Averesch collect 9th in the shot put with a toss of 12.89m.
Junior Milani Glass placed 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional mark of 8.78. She also captured 4th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.88.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team consisted of Glass, junior Claire Crum, Hernandez, and sophomore Rachel Eaton earned 5th at the 4:18.06 mark.
