Oilers Compete at Hillsdale

The University of Findlay track and field teams traveled to Hillsdale College for the Wide Track Classic on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4. The event featured hundreds of athletes with multiple Division I programs as well as strong Division II teams.

Men's Results

Junior Trey Everett claimed a new school record and earned the gold with a NCAA provisional mark in the heptathlon with 5,090 points. Within the event, he claimed 4th in the 60 meter dash, 1st in the 1000 meter run, high jump & long jump, 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles, 6th in pole vault and 3rd in the shot put. Everett broke the school record earlier this season with 5,019 points.

In the championship division of the 400 meter dash, junior Sergi Torres captured bronze with a NCAA provisional time of 49.18.

In the preliminaries of the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Lenell Shelby III provo'd and finished 2nd with a time of 8.22. Shelby claimed 4th in the finals with another provisional time of 8.25.

The 4x400 meter relay team featuring Torres, Shelby III, senior Derek Collins and sophomore George Effah captured 4th after crossing the finish line at the 3:21.24 mark.

Sophomore Troy Schultz placed 6th in the 800 meter run after finishing at the 2:03.13 mark.

In the 400 meter dash freshman Kurt Grieger earned 9th after clocking in at 51.59.

Women's Results

Junior Milani Glass finished first in the semi-finals of the 60 meter hurdles and met the NCAA provisional mark with a time of 8.78. Glass ended up with the silver in the finals of with 60 meter hurdles with and provo'd with a time of 8.64.

In the 200 meter dash, junior Laura Hernandez finished in 8th with a time of 25.84.

Freshman Semoy Hemmings claimed 9th in the 400 meter dash after clocking in at the 59.97 mark.

A pair of freshman finished in the top five of the 800 meter run. Madisen Borer earned 2nd with a time of 2:25.10 and Jenna Shipman captured 4th with a time of 2:25.96.

The 4x400 meter relay team featuring Glass, Hemmings, Shipman and Hernandez earned 5th with a time of 3:58.46.

Senior Melanie Ruich finished the 3000 meter run in 11:04.98 to claim 5th.

In the weight throw junior Trevia Gumbs finished 4th and met the NCAA provisional mark with a toss of 17.71m and senior Liz Streacker also provo'd with a heave of 17.65m and claimed 5th.

The Oilers track and field teams will be back in action on Friday, February 10 when they travel to Boston, Massachusetts for the Valentine Invitational.  Findlay will also be sending athletes to the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Friday, February 10.
