GLIAC Indoor T&F Comes to a Close
The University of Findlay track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday, February 26 at the Malcolm Athletic Center in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.
Junior Trey Everett was crowned the champion in the men's heptathlon after he led the field on the first day of competition. Today he placed 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles, 4th in the pole vault and 6th in the 1000 meter run for a total of 5,127 points. That point total meets the NCAA provisional mark and currently ranks him 9th in Division II. Everett's point total also sets a new UF indoor record.
Everett also competed in the high jump today and just missed the podium with a 4th place finish. He cleared a height of 2.11m (6'11"), which meets the provisional mark and currently ranks him 7th in Division II.
Everett's performance on the weekend earned him the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet. This is just the third time in school history an Oiler has been named the GLIAC Championships Field Athlete of the Meet. The previous two times were by former National Champion Justin Welch in 2015 and 2012
The men's 4x400 meter relay team featuring sophomore George Effah, freshman Lenell Shelby III, senior Derek Collins and junior Sergi Torres claimed the gold with a provisional time of 3:16.83. The 4x400 team is currently 16th in Division II from a time set earlier in the season.
Junior Milani Glass clocked in at 8.54 in the 60 meter hurdles to earn the silver medal. She provo'd in the event and now sits 9th in Division II. On the men's side, Shelby III claimed 6th with a time of 8.29.
Glass also competed in the 200 meter dash finals. She finished in 25.50 to earn 5th.
In the 400 meter dash Torres grabbed the silver medal and Effah brought home the bronze. Torres provo'd with a time of 48.71 and Effah also provo'd at 48.82. Effah stands at 8th in Division II from a time earlier in the season. For the women, freshman Semoy Hemmings captured 6th with a provisional time of 57.29 and junior Laura Hernandez placed 8th at the 58.84 mark.
Senior Ben Hahler claimed the bronze medal in the men's shot put with a provisional distance of 18.05m (59'2.50"). This distance currently ranks Hahler 4th in Division II competition. In the women's shot put, three Oilers met the provisional mark. Junior Alex DeVincentis claimed 4th (15.55m, 47'8.75"), junior Trevia Gumbs earned 6th (13.78m, 45'2.50") and freshman Hannah Hahler finished 8th (13.56m, 44'5.75"). DeVincentis currently sits 9th in the nation.
The men finished in 5th place with 54 total points and the women ended in 6th place with 44 total points.
The Oilers will have a couple of weeks to prepare for the NCAA Division II National Championships, which takes place in Birmingham, Alabama on March 10-11.
