Maag Named Assistant Coach of the Year

Blaine Maag was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Midwest Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year on March 7.

Maag, who coaches the throwers at the University of Findlay, had five of his athletes qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship. Four of them will compete in the weight throw. Junior Tynelle Gumbs is ranked third in the nation after a toss of 21.45m (70'4.5") at the GLIAC Championship. She will be joined by her sister, junior Trevia Gumbs who is ranked seventh in the country in the event with a season-best throw of 19.48m (63'11"). Seniors Erica King, ranked eighth with a 19.46m (63'10.25"), and Liz Streacker, ranked 16th with an 18.56m (60'10.75"), are also competing in the weight throw.

Another thrower, junior Alex DeVincentis, will be making her second consecutive trip to the national meet in the shot put. She is currently ranked 10th in the country with a throw of 15.10m (49'6.5").
