Oilers Open 2017 T&F Outdoor Season

The University of Findlay track and field teams opened up their 2017 outdoor season on Friday, March 24 with athletes competing in the Emory Classic in Atlanta, Georgia held by Emory University and in the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina, hosted by North Carolina State University.

Emory Classic

In the men's 10,000 meter run, sophomore Jonathan Allen finished the race in 32:53.59 to earn 2nd.

Freshman Lenell Shelby III captured 3rd in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.85, while fellow freshman Clint Recker finished in 59.36 to place 22nd.

In the 3,000 meter steeplechase sophomore Austin Guthrie placed 3rd with a time of 10:12.42.

The women's 4x800 meter relay team featuring senior Nicole Burlinson, freshman Jenna Shipman, freshman Aubreah Manns and freshman Madisen Borer clocked in at 9:30.55 to earn 3rd.

Shipman, along with freshman Gabby Seibert competed in the long jump. Shipman finished 9th with a distance of 5.26m (17-3¼) and Siebert earned 17th with a mark of 4.86m (15-11½).

Sophomore Khalil Capers finished 6th in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.62m.

In the men's hammer throw, senior Garrett Gardner placed 4th (46.46m|152-5), freshman Javian Martin finished 8th (40.40m|132-6) and sophomore Matthew Baker ended up 15th (29.36m|96-40).

Freshman Hannah Hahler earned 9th (43.28m|142-0), sophomore Sabrina Bailey claimed 13th (38.39m|125-11) and sophomore Megan Lyons finished 30th (26.30m|86-3) in the women's hammer throw.

The Emory Classic will resume tomorrow, Saturday, March 25 with field events set to begin at 9 a.m. and running events at 9:30 a.m.

Raleigh Relay

The Raleigh Relays is one of premiere track and field meets in the nation, with over 100 schools and 2,000 athletes across all NCAA divisions participating.

In the men's shot put, senior Ben Hahler captured 2nd with NCAA provisional mark of 17.15m (56-3¼). Sophomore Austin Combs finished just outside the top ten in 11th with a throw of 14.97m (49-1½) and senior Mitch Adkins placed 24th with a 12.99m (42-7½) heave.

Hahler and Adkins also competed in the discus and claimed 8th with a throw of 48.64m (159-7) and 13th with a distance of 44.19m (144-11), respectively.

In the women's shot put, junior Alex DeVincentis earned 7th with a NCAA provisional mark of 14.74m (48-4½) and classmate Trevia Gumbs finished 33rd after a 11.84m (38-10¼) toss.

Four Oiler women competed in the discus. Junior Tynelle Gumbs provo'd and claimed 11th (45.72m|150-0), Tr. Gumbs earned 18th (43.20m|141-9), DeVincentis placed 23rd (41.50m|136-2) and junior Liz Streacker finished 36th (33.14m|108-9).

They Raleigh Relays will continue tomorrow, Saturday, March 25 with the field events starting at 10 a.m. and the running events at 11:45 a.m.
