The University of Findlay track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Emory Classic and the Raleigh Relays on Saturday, March 25.

Emory Classic

As a team, the Oilers' men finished the event with 87 points scored, earning them a second place finish in the 21-team field while the women took sixth place of 26 teams with 51 points scored. ­

In the men's pole vault, senior Derek Spindler claimed 1st with a height of 4.63m (15-2¼). On the women's side in the pole vault, senior Torie Allgire earned 7th, reaching a height of 2.93m (9-7)

Junior Milani Glass finished the 100 meter hurdles in 14.31 to win the prelims. In the finals, she posted a NCAA provisional time of 14.09 to earn 1st. Glass also competed in the 200 meter dash and finished 6th with a time of 25.45.

In the men's 110 meter hurdles, freshman Lenell Shelby III finished the prelims in 14.57 to earn 3rd and freshman Clint Recker placed 5th in 15.51. In the event finals, Shelby III captured 3rd with a time of 14.85 and Recker sported a time of 15.55 for 7th.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team featuring Glass, junior Laura Hernandez, freshman Jenna Shipman and freshman Semoy Hemmings earned 3rd with a time of 47.94 and the men's 4x100 team consisting of Shelby III, sophomore Zach Jellison, sophomore Khalil Capers and sophomore Jaye Williams placed 11th in a time of 43.05.

Sophomore George Effah claimed 1st in the men's 400 with a time of 48.38. Freshman Kurt Grieger placed 23rd with a time of 51.10 and sophomore Sam Teston ran it in 53.86 to place 37th. Hemmings clocked in at 56.62 for 4th and Hernandez finished in a time of 1:01.50 to place 26th in the women's 400 meter dash.

In the women's 800 meter run, freshman Madisen Borer sported a time of 2:21.19 to finish 11th.

Sophomore Torrie Purdy claimed at 5th place finish in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:21.83 and freshman Maggie Kise crossed the finish line in 5:44.95 to place 20th. In the seeded portion of the 1,500 meter run senior Nicole Burlinson claimed 3rd with a time of 4:47.56.

In the women's 5,000 meter run freshman Sidney Towalski placed 13th with a time of 21:18.01 and sophomore Megan Martz finished 14th at the 21:34.93 mark. In the seeded portion of the 5,000 meter run junior Taylor Bolinger claimed 6th with a time of 18:37.49 and senior Melanie Ruich earned 7th in a time of 18:38.00.

The men's 5,000 meter run featured three Oilers finishing in the top ten. Sophomore Michael Taylor finished 2nd with a time of 15.39.31, sophomore Jon Anderson earned 3rd at the 15:50.21 mark and sophomore Ty Gleason claimed 8th in a time of 16:21.57.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Effah, senior Derek Collins, Grieger and junior Sergi Torres earned 3rd with a time of 3:20.80, while the women's 4x400 meter relay team of Glass, Hemmings, Burlinson and Hernandez placed 6th with a time of 4:03.02.

Throws

In the discus freshman Javian Martin captured 3rd with a throw of 42.90m (140-9), senior Garrett Gardner claimed 6th with a heave of 40.56m (133-1) and sophomore Matthew Baker finished 17th with a distance of 32.64m (107-1). Martin also participated in the shot put and finished in second place with a throw of 14.58m (47-10).

In the women's shot put, sophomore Holly Averesch would take fourth place out of 35 athletes with a toss that measured 13.24m (43-5).

Raleigh Relays

Three Oiler women finished in the top eight of the women's hammer throw and they all met the NCAA provisional mark. Senior Erica King earned 6th with a throw of 56.72m (186-1), junior Tynelle Gumbs placed 7th with a heave of 56.63m (185-9) and senior Liz Streacker finished 8th with a distance of 54.49m (178-9).

In the men's hammer, sophomore Austin Combs throw of 58.97m (195-3) met the NCAA provisional mark and earned him 7th and senior Mitch Adkins placed 20th with a distance of 46.86m (153-9).

The Oilers track and field teams return to competition on Friday, March 31 with meets in High Point, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky.
