Day One of All-Ohio Championships Comes to a Close

The University of Findlay track and field teams traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio for day one of the All-Ohio Championships. The event featured 14 teams from NCAA Division I and II institutions, along with NAIA universities. The meet is being scored in two groups, Division I in one group and Division II and NAIA in the other.

Sophomore Austin Combs claimed 1st overall in the men's hammer throw with a NCAA provisional toss of 61.92m (203-1.75). Combs currently ranks 4th in Division II competition with this mark. Senior Mitch Adkins also competed and finished 3rd in Division II/NAIA and 6th overall, with a heave of 48.06m (157-8).

Freshman Jenna Shipman captured 1st in the Division II/NAIA division of the long jump and 4th overall with a distance of 5.36m (17-7).

In the women's hammer throw senior Erica King earned 1st in the Division II/NAIA segment and 2nd overall with a NCAA Championship automatic qualifying throw of 60.17m (197-4.75). Senior Liz Streacker provo'd with a throw of 57.47m (188-6.50) to earn 2nd in Division II/NAIA and 5th overall. Junior Tynelle Gumbs also provo'd with a 56.40m (185-0.5) heave to place 3rd in Division II/NAIA and 6th overall. Freshman Hannah Hahler claimed 4th in Division II/NAIA and 18th overall with a distance of 47.51m (155-10.25).

After the first day of competition in the Division II/NAIA group, the Oiler men are in third with 16 points and the women are in second with 44.5 points.

The All-Ohio Championships will wrap up on Saturday, April 15. Field events are set to begin at 10 a.m. and running events are scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start.

The track and field teams also sent athletes to compete at the Don Kleinow Invitational at Siena Heights University.

Senior Derek Spindler grabbed 2nd in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.70m and junior Michael Dolinar took 12th with a clearance of 3.85m. In the women's pole vault senior Torie Allgire claimed 10th with a height of 3.05m.

In the women's shot put, sophomore Sabrina Bailey captured 2nd (11.69m) and senior Dawn Freeland earned 3rd (11.62m). Bailey also competed in the hammer throw and took 11th (38.28m).

In the women's discus, sophomore Megan Lyons placed 5th (39.01m) and Freeland finished 6th (37.88m).

Senior Garrett Gardner earned 10th in the discus with a throw of 41.32m and he also finished 10th in the hammer throw with a heave of 44.62m.

Freshman Gabby Seibert finished 13th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:06.81 and 14th in the long jump with a distance of 4.71m.
