Oilers Complete Day One of Invitationals

The University of Findlay track and field teams traveled to Ada, Ohio on Friday, April 21 for the Polar Bear Invitational at Ohio Northern University. The meet featured ten teams across NCAA Division II & III.

Sophomore Austin Combs won the men's hammer throw and met the NCAA provisional mark with a 59.90m (196-6) heave. Senior Mitch Adkins placed 5th in the event with a distance of 49.97m (163-11) and senior Garrett Gardner finished 9th with a toss of 46.49m (149-09).

In the women's hammer throw junior Tynelle Gumbs won the event with a NCAA provisional mark of 58.58m (192-02) and freshman Hannah Hahler claimed 8th with a mark of 41.83m.

The Polar Bear Invite will resume tomorrow with field events starting at 11 a.m. and running events at 12 p.m.

The Oilers also sent track and field athletes to compete in Atlanta, George for the Georgia Tech Invitational. The invite consisted of over thirty teams across all NCAA divisions.

Freshman Lenell Shelby III clocked in at 14.52 in the men's 110 meter hurdles to earn 8th.

In the 100 meter dash sophomore Jaye Williams placed 20th with a time of 10.78.

The Georgia Tech Invite will continue tomorrow with field events at 11 a.m. and running events at 1 p.m.

The track and field teams will also have athletes competing at the Jesse Owens Classic tomorrow in Columbus, Ohio.
