Lenell Shelby III and Tynelle Gumbs Earn Athlete of the Week

Findlay, OH – A pair of University of Findlay track and field athletes earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athlete of the Week honors on Monday, April 24.

Freshman Lenell Shelby III had a solid showing at the Georgia Tech Invitational help in Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend and has earned Men's Track Athlete of the Week. Shelby ran in the 400 meter hurdles and finished in a personal-best time of 52.30 to earn fourth place. That time was good enough to be a provisional qualifying time, is the 11th fastest in DII this season, and is the fastest time in the GLIAC this year.

Junior Tynelle Gumbs earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week and had a dominating weekend at the Polar Bear Invite in Ada, Ohio. Gumbs won the discus throw with a toss of 168'9", and automatic qualifier for the NCAA DII National Championship, the top throw in the GLIAC this year, and the seventh-best throw in the country. She then took first place in the hammer throw with a distance of 192'2", a provisional qualifier, fourth-best throw in the conference, and ninth-best throw in the country. Gumbs, a native of the British Virgin Islands, set new national records in both events.
