Findlay Battles at Davenport Last Chance Meet

Grand Rapids, MI - The University of Findlay track and field team sent athletes to Grand Rapids, Michigan for the DU Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Davenport University. The event took place on Wednesday, March 10 and saw multiple athletes earn top finishes.

Competing in the 400 meter dash, freshman Semoy Hemmings sprinted out to a first place finish, completing the race in a provisional qualifying time of 55.90.

The Oilers got another first place finish from junior George Effah in the 400 meter dash. Effah took the top spot after finishing the event in a time of 48.95, a provisional qualifying time.

Senior Ben Hahler, fresh off of a third place finish in the shot put at the GLIAC Championship meet, was the runner up in the shot put with a throw of 18.04m (59'2.25"). That distance meets the provisional mark in the event and is the fourth-best throw in NCAA Division II this season. He also competed in the discus throw where he earned the top spot with a throw of 50.00m (164'0.5"), a provisional qualifying distance.

Sophomore Hannah Hahler set a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 14.25m (46'9"). That mark made her the runner up in the event and is a provisional qualifying distance.

The track and field team will have athletes competing in the states of Illinois, Michigan, and North Carolina this week as they tune up for the National Championship Meet, which begins on March 26 in Bradenton, Florida.
