Track All-Region and National Qualifiers Announced

Findlay, OH - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the all-region honorees for the 2016-17 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field season on May 16. Both the Findlay men and women had six athletes earn all-region honors.

The qualifiers for the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships were also released on May 16 by the NCAA. The Oilers track program will send nine to the event as three qualified from the men's team and six qualified from the women's squad, which is led by their throwers who, as a team, have the highest squad averages in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw.

All-Region

In order to earn all-region, an athlete had to be ranked in the top five in the region in his or her respective event or had to be a member of a relay team that was ranked in the top three in the region.

On the men's side, the 4x400 meter relay team featuring sophomore George Effah, freshman Kurt Grieger, freshman Lenell Shelby III and sophomore Jaye Williams earned all-region with a season best time of 3:13.01 at the 2017 Aggie Last Chance meet.

Shelby III also earned all-region honors in the 400 meter hurdles while Effah was tabbed all-region in the individual 400 meter.

Senior Ben Hahler earned all-region in the shot put and senior Derek Spindler picked up all-region in the pole vault.

Three Oiler women earned all-region in the hammer throw, as senior Liz Streacker, senior Erica King and junior Tynelle Gumbs picked up the honor. Gumbs also was named all-region in the discus.

Joining Gumbs being named all-region in the discus is junior Alex DeVincentis, who was also tabbed all-region in the shot put with junior Trevia Gumbs.

Senior Milani Glass picked up the all-region honor in the 100 meter hurdles.

National Qualifiers

NCAA Lists

Lenell Shelby III, the GLIAC champion in the 400 meter hurdles, qualified in the event with a season best time of 52.30 that he ran at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

Earning a trip in the shot put is Ben Hahler who owns the 4th best throw in the country with a throw of 18.10m and sophomore Austin Combs qualified in the hammer throw with a toss of 61.92m, the 7th best in the nation.

Three Findlay women earned the right to compete in the hammer throw. Erica King, the GLIAC champion, is ranked 4th in the country after a toss of 61.34 at the Miami Duals, Tynelle Gumbs is ranked 8th with a throw of 59.30m at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships and senior Liz Streacker is ranked 9th with a distance of 59.28m recorded at the Miami Duals.

Ty. Gumbs will also be competing in the discus throw after she set a new school record with a toss of 51.43m at the Polar Bear Invitational. She also won the discus in the GLIAC this year and is ranked 7th in the country. Joining her in the discus is junior Alex DeVincentis who is ranked 10th with a heave of 50.52m at the GVSU Last Chance Meet.

DeVincentis, along with Trevia Gumbs, will be representing the Oilers in the women's shot put. DeVincentis is ranked 6th after a toss of 15.24m at the GVSU Second to Last Chance Meet and Tr. Gumbs is ranked 17th after a throw of 14.61m at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships.

The only non-thrower on the women's side is junior Milani Glass who earned the right to compete in the 100m hurdles. She is the GLIAC champion in the event and is ranked 16th in the nation with a season-best of 13.77 seconds which she ran at the 2017 Aggie Last Chance meet.

The meet will take place from May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla. and is being hosted by IMG Academy.
