USTFCCA Honors Gumbs | Maag

Junior Tynelle Gumbs was voted the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year while assistant coach Blaine Maag brought home honors as the top assistant in the Midwest Region.

Gumbs, who was named all-region in both the discus and hammer throw, was named the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Field Athlete of the Year earlier this season. She ranks seventh among all NCAA Division II competitors in the discus at 165'09 and is ranked eighth nationally in the hammer throw at 194'07.

A GLIAC champion during the outdoor season in the discus, Gumbs also secured honors as the GLIAC Athlete of the Meet at the league championship.

Maag, who earned the same honor during the indoor season, has led a talented group of throwers this season. The group has excelled in the hammer throw where the Oilers have three individuals ranked in the top-10 nationally. Erica King is ranked fourth (201'03), Gumbs is ranked eighth (194'07) and Liz Streacker is ranked ninth at 194'06.

The Oilers have five individuals ranked in the top-50 in the discus and another four ranked in the top-30 nationally in the shot put. Gumbs is ranked seventh in the discus at 168'09 and is followed by Alex DeVincentis, who is ranked tenth at 165'09. Trevia Gumbs (157'01) is ranks 25th, Holly Averesch (153'08) is ranked 30th and Streacker is ranked 46th at 147'10.

In the shot put, DeVincentis (50'00) is ranked sixth, Trevia Gumbs (47'11.25) is ranked 17th, Averesch (47'07.75) is ranked 22nd and Hannah Hahler (46'09) is ranked 28th.
