Bradenton, FL - The University of Findlay track and field team saw success on their first day of competition at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship as three athletes earned all-American status.

On the women's side, two athletes finished inside the top eight to earn their place as all-Americans. Last year's national runner-up in the hammer throw, senior Erica King took seventh place in the event. Her third throw of the day was her longest, a throw that measured 58.91m (193'3"). 2017 marks the third straight year in which King has earned all-American in the hammer throw.

Right behind King was fellow senior Liz Streacker. Streacker's best throw was her third and it measured 58.76m (192'9"). She took eighth place to earn all-American for the second straight year in the event.

In the men's hammer throw, sophomore Austin Combs brought his best performance of his career so far when, on his sixth attempt, he launched the hammer 64.82m (212'8"). That distance surpassed his old career-best by nine and a half feet. This is the first all-American award in the hammer throw for Combs, who was a national qualifier last season in the event.

Freshman Lenell Shelby III just missed out on qualifying for the finals in the 400 meter hurdles. He ran in the second heat of the event and took fourth place, tying his career-best time of 52.30. It was the tenth-fastest time of the day but was .20 seconds shy of making the finals.

Day 2 of the NCAA Division II Championship will be tomorrow, May 26.
