Top-10 Individual Performances | #2 Tynelle Gumbs

The 2016-17 athletic year was another successful one for the Oilers, who saw a plethora of individual athletes achieve outstanding accomplishments. The UF athletic media relations staff has put together a list of the top-10 individual performances from the 2016-17 campaign and will be revealing them during the summer months.

#2 | Tynelle Gumbs | Women's Track and Field

Tynelle Gumbs had a great start to her career at Findlay and became only the second women's track athlete to capture an indoor national title when she won the weight throw with a heave of 70'03 on March 11 in Birmingham, Ala.

Gumbs won a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) title during the indoor season in the weight throw with a school record toss of 70'04.25 and was named all-region in the event as well. A first team all-GLIAC pick, Gumbs was named the GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week twice (1/23, 1/31).

During the outdoor season, Gumbs was named the Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). She earned all-region accolades in the hammer throw and discus and also secured honors as the 2017 GLIAC Field Athlete of the Year.

A GLIAC champion during the outdoor season in the discus, Gumbs also secured honors as the GLIAC Athlete of the Meet at the league championship.
