Oilers Compete at Tiffin Dragon Open
The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 2017 Tiffin Dragon Open in Tiffin, Ohio on January 20.
Men
Sophomore Martin Etsey took first place in the men's triple jump with a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) record and a provisional qualifying distance of 15.16m (49-09.00).
In the men's 3000 meter run, the Oilers took the top three spots led by senior Jonathan Allen with a time of 9:03.43. Coming in second was junior Ty Gleason with a time of 9:12.39, and close behind him came junior Michael Taylor crossing the finish with a time of 9:12.63.
Coming in first place in the men's 800 meter run was freshman Daniel Agbola with a time of 2:01.47.
The men's squad also took first in the men's 4 x 400 meter relay. Senior George Effah, sophomore Kurt Grieger, sophomore Lenell Shelby III, and junior Jay Williams broke a G-MAC record with a time of 3:24.49
Effah also took first place in the 200 meter run at 22.30, giving him another conference record.
Findlay had two provisional qualifying athletes in the weight throw. Junior Austin Combs had a first place throw of 20.46m (67-01.50), which sets a new league record. Junior Dequan Lovell placed third with another G-MAC record throw of 18.69m (61-04.00).
Combs also completed an automatic qualifying throw of 18.20m (59-08.50) in the men's shot put. The throw was good enough for another league record. Lovell's 16.26m (53-04.25) throw was a provisional qualifier and gave him a sixth place finish in the event.
In the men's long jump, the oilers took two of the top three spots. Senior Trey Everett took second place with a G-MAC record distance of 6.94m (22-09.25), and junior Khalil Capers earned third place with a distance of 6.74m (22-01.50).
In the men's 60 meter run, Williams ran a 6.98 giving him another G-MAC record.
Women
Senior Milani Glass placed first in the women's 60 meter hurdles with a provisional qualifying time of 8.76.
Glass, sophomore Jenna Shipman, sophomore Aubreah Manns, and sophomore Semoy Hemmings took first place in the women's 4 x 400m relay with a time of 4:07.41.
In the women's shot put, senior Alex Devincentis had a provisional qualifying throw of 15.07m (49-05.50). Devincentis also took third in the women's weight throw, throwing for 16.75m (54-04.50). Both throws were good enough for the G-MAC record books.
Shipman placed ran a 1:00.37 in the women's 400 meters earning her the first place spot. Shipman also took third in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.14m (16-10.50).
Freshman Terissa Tran took third in the women's triple jump with a distance of 9.74m (31-11.50).
Findlay will be back in action as they host the annual Findlay Classic and Elite Throws competition on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27.
