Combs/DeVincentis Earn G-MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Findlay, Ohio – On Tuesday, Jan. 23, a pair of Findlay field athletes earned Field Athlete of the Week from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Junior Austin Combs and senior Alex DeVincentis both had outstanding throws at the Tiffin Dragon Open to earn the award.
Austin Combs best throw of the meet in the shot put measured 18.2m (59-08.50) and was an automatic qualifier for the Indoor National Championship and won him the event. That distance is the second-best in the nation this season and also established a new G-MAC record. In the weight throw, Combs, who already owns the longest throw in the nation this season, took first place with a distance of 20.46m (67-01.50), a provisional qualifying distance.
Alex DeVincentis took first place in the shot put at the Dragon Open with a throw that distanced 15.07m (49-5.50). That toss established a new conference record and was a provisional qualifying throw, the fourth-best throw in the country this season. She later took third place in the weight throw with a toss of 16.57m (54-4.50).
