Oilers Finish Strong at the Findlay Classic & Elite Throws
The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams completed day two at the Findlay Classic & Elite Throws Competition in Findlay, Ohio on January 27.
Men
Freshman Trey Everett earned a first place finish in the men's high jump with a height of 2.00m (6-06.75). His jumped earned him a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) record.
In the men's triple jump, freshman Etsey Martin placed first with a provisional qualifying jump of 15.10m (49-06.50). The jump was also good enough for a league record. Freshman Ashton Jones took fifth place in the event with a distance of 12.32m (40-05.00).
Sophomore Lenell Shelby III ran an 8.31 in the men's 60 meter hurdles, earning him a second place finish and a G-MAC record.
Shelby also took second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.63.
In the men's 400 meter dash sophomore Kurt Grieger ran a 51.27 to earn second place.
Freshman Daniel Agbola ran a 1:56.31 in the men's 800 meter run. His time gave him a conference record and a second place finish
In the men's weight throw open, second place finisher freshman Dequan Lovell had a provisional qualifying throw of 18.37m (60-03.25), giving him a G-MAC record.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team placed third in their event. Junior Jay Williams, Lenell Shelby III, sophomore Kurt Grieger, and junior Zach Jellison ran a 3:31.99.
Junior Austin Combs threw for 21.38m (70-01.75) in the men's weigh throw elite. The fourth place throw was an automatic qualifier and broke his previously earned G-MAC record for the number one rank.
Sophomore Javian Martin threw for 15.28m (50-01.75) in the men's shot put open, earning him eighth place and a league record.
Women
Sophomore Semoy Hemmings took the gold in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 58.70.
In the women's shot put open, junior Holly Averesch placed second with a provisional qualifying throw of 14.63m (48-00.00). The throw also gave her a G-MAC record.
Senior Alex DeVincentis had a provisional qualifying throw of 15.18m (49-09.75) in the women's shot put elite, giving her fifth place and another G-MAC record.
In the women's 1,000 meter run, sophomore Madison Borer earned fifth place for the Oilers with a time of 3:14.86.
