Findlay Men Win G-MAC Championship
The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams finished strong to complete the final day of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Hillsdale, Mich. on February 24.
Men
Senior Trey Everett was named male athlete of the meet. Everett earned the conference title in the men's high jump, with a provisional qualifying height of 2.04m (6-08.25).
Junior George Effah earned another G-MAC title for the Oilers, taking first place in the men's 400 meter dash, running a 49.08.
The Oilers earned the top two spots in the men's shot put. Junior Austin Combs took first, throwing for 17.76m (58-03.25), while freshman Dequan Lovell earned second place with a 16.57m (54-04.50) throw. Both of the athletes' throws were NCAA provisional qualifiers.
The men's 4x400 meter relay squad earned yet another conference title for Findlay. Effah, freshman Daniel Agbola, sophomore Lenell Shelby III, and sophomore Kurt Grieger ran a 3:20.84 to earn first place in the event.
Two of the top three spots in the men's triple jump were earned by the Findlay men. Freshman Martin Etsey won second place, jumping for 14.39m (47-02.50), and Everett took third with a distance of 13.70m (44-11.50).
Shelby won the bronze in the men's 200 meter dash final, running a 22.30, while Effah earned a fourth place finish with a time of 22.44.
In the men's 800 meter run Agbola took fourth running a 1:57.22.
Shelby and Everett took the fourth and fifth place spots respectively in the men's 60 meter hurdles. Shelby ran an 8.45, while Everett was close behind running an 8.48
Freshman Jacob Hill earned fifth place in the men's 60 meter dash, running a 7.05.
Women
Senior Alex DeVincentis was named the female athlete of the meet after dominating in this weekend's throwing events. DeVincentis took the gold in the women's shot put, throwing for 14.95m (49-00.75). Junior Holly Averesch earned second place in the event with a distance of 13.87m (45-06.25). Both athletes' throws hit NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Sophomore Semoy Hemmings won the conference title in the women's 400 meter dash by running a 57.88.
The women's 4x400 meter relay squad took fourth place. Sophomore Jenna Shipman, freshman Mia Johnson, sophomore Aubreah Manns, and Hemmings collectively ran a 4:08.71.
