Oilers Sending 8 to National Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field teams will send eight competitors to the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship, which is slated to be held on March 9-10 in Pittsburg, Kansas.

The men's squad will send five individuals to the meet and will be led by junior Austin Combs, who will compete in the weight throw and shot put. Combs ranks third in the nation with a mark of 21.40 meters and fourth in the shot put at 18.20 meters. He also earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) titles in both events.

Freshman Dequan Lovell will also join Combs in competing in both the weight throw and shot put. Lovell is ranked 13th in the weight throw at 19.64 meters and 18th in the shot put at 17.36 meters.

Senior Trey Everett will head to nationals and is seeded fourth in the heptathlon. Everett, who was recently named the G-MAC Field Athlete of the Meet after his performance at the league championship, holds the school record in the event with 5,407 points.

Junior George Effah is slated to compete in the 400-meter dash while freshman Martin Etsey will take part in the triple jump. Effah checks in 11th in the 400 with a time of 47.73 while Etsey is ranked 11th in his event at 15.16 meters.

On the women's side, senior Alex DeVincentis, senior Milani Glass and junior Holly Averesch will represent the Oilers at the national championship.

DeVincentis, who was named the G-MAC Field Athlete of the Meet at the conference championship, will compete in the shot put where she is seeded seventh at 15.18 meters.

Glass is slated to run in the 60-meter hurdles while Averesch will join DeVincentis in the shot put.

Glass is seeded 12th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.58 while Averesch is ranked 15th in her event at 14.63 meters.
