Oilers Compete at Findlay Open
The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Findlay Open on January 12 in the Malcolm Athletic Center.
Men
The Oiler men earned the top four spots in the men's shot put. Junior Eldred Henry took first place and threw for an automatic qualifying distance of 19.44m (63-09.50). His throw is a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) record and Eldred now holds the record for best mark in school history, surpassing a throw by Derrick Vicars in 2012. Both seniors Austin Combs (17.93m (58-10.0)) and Dequan Lovell (16.30 (53-05.75) hit provision qualifying marks and earned second and third place respectively. Junior Javian Martin took fourth place with a distance of 15.01m (49-03.00).
In the men's weight throw, it was Lovell who took the top spot with a provisional qualifying throw of 62-07.75. Finishing in second was Henry with a throw of 56-09.25 and in third was Combs who distanced 55-00.25
In the men's 60 meter hurdles, freshman Josh Steinbrunner ran a 8.54 to earn second place.
Two Oilers finished in the top five in the men's pole vault. 2 3 way tie Sophomore Gabe Makin vaulted 4.58m (15-00.25) to tie two other competitors for second place, and freshman Ryan Stevens earned fifth with a height of 4.43m (14-06.25).
Junior Ty Gleason took third in the men's 3000 meter run with a time of 8:54.40.
Women
In the women's 800 meter run, freshman Hayley Robinett took first place with a time of 2:18.09.
The women's 4x400 meter relay squad also earned first place. Junior Jenna Shipman, junior Aubreah Manns, freshman Hayley Robinett, and junior Semoy Hemmings collectively ran a 4:01.63.
Shipman also placed first in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.37m (17-07.50).
In the women's pole vault, freshman Meadow Cromer vaulted 3.42m (11-02.50) to earn first place.
Junior Hannah Hahler threw for 15.53m (50-11.50) in women's weight throw to take first place. She also took third place in the shot put, reaching a distance of 14.24m (46-08.75).
Two Oilers finished in the top five in the women's 200 meter dash. Junior Semoy Hemmings earned second place by running a 25.96, and Shipman took fifth with a time of 26.55.
In the women's 3000 meter run, 2 freshman Gabrielle Lawrence earned second place by finishing with a time of 10:52.99.
Hahler hit a provisional qualifying mark in the women's shot put by throwing for 14.24m (46-08.75) and earning third place.
