Oilers Claim 81-73 OT Win At Ashland

The University of Findlay women's basketball team needed two overtimes to beat Ashland University earlier this year, but decided one was enough in their match-up on Saturday, January 29 as the Oilers defeated the Eagles by a score of 81-73 in Ashland, Ohio. The win gives the Oilers a 14-4 record on the year with a 9-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Down 53-45 with 10:28 to play in the second half, the Oilers went on a 17-0 run to claim a 62-53 lead with 6:51 remaining. The Eagles would then close the gap in a hurry, taking a 64-62 lead on a basket by Daiva Gerbec with only 53 ticks left in the period.

Down by two, junior guard Laura Bardall went to the free throw line and drained two free throws, but the second one was negated due to a lane violation. Needing to get the ball back, the Oilers fouled and after two free throws by the Eagles, junior guard Clare Aubry drained a three pointer to send the game into overtime tied at 66-66.

In overtime, Aubry continued to torture the Eagles by scoring ten of the Oilers 15 points in the extra session.

Aubry finished the game with 30 points on 9-of-17 shooting. She also drained 5-of-9 shots from behind the three point line and added five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore forward Kayla Brown also broke into double digits for the Oilers, scoring 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

Sophomore guard Kendra Elam added nine points while freshman guard Saira House stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, a career-high nine assists and five rebounds.

Junior forward Kaitlyn Nelson chipped in six points and eight rebounds to aid the Oilers win as well.

The Eagles were led by Lindsay Tenyak's 14 points.

The Oilers shot 40 percent (26-of-65) from the floor and drilled 10-of-24 (41.7%) three point shots in the game. They also hit 19-of-22 (86.3%) attempts from the charity stripe and forced the Eagles into 23 turnovers.

The Oilers will be back in action again on February 3 when they host #10 Michigan Technological University at 8 pm in Croy Gymnasium.
