Oilers Smack Storm 73-49

The University of Findlay women's basketball team went on the road and defeated Lake Erie College by a score of 73-49 on Thursday, January 27 in Painesville, Ohio. The victory gives the Oilers a 13-4 record on the season with an 8-2 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Oilers struggled making shots for most of the game, hitting 38.5 percent (20-of-52) of their field goal attempts, but found a way to get to the free throw line and get second chance opportunities with 19 offensive rebounds. The Oilers also got hot from the three point line in the second half and ended the game by making 8-of-19 (42.1%) triple tries.

Sophomore guard Kendra Elam led the team with a career-high 19 points on the strength of a 5-of-5 showing from behind the three point line.

Freshman guard Saira House stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Junior guards Laura Bardall and Clare Aubry also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Sophomore forward Kayla Brown returned from a nine game layoff due to injury and recorded nine points, three rebounds and three steals.

Stephanie Rogers led the Storm with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Ashland, Ohio to face Ashland University at 3 pm.
