Wiedie Hired As An Assistant Coach

Jim Wiedie has been selected as the Oilers new assistant coach for women's basketball as the program announced the hiring on Tuesday, August 23.

Wiedie spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach at Otterbein college and was the head coach at Indiana State University from 2000-2010, exiting exited as the program's all-time leader in wins with 166.

Holding an overall coaching mark of 166-118, Wiedie guided the Sycamores to Missouri Valley Conference regular season championships in 2003 and 2006, and was named the conference Coach of the Year in both seasons. He also earned the WBCA Region VI Coach of the Year award in 2006.

Wiedie was able to establish a tradition of academic excellence while at Indiana State, as his teams finished in the top 15 nationally in team grade-point average during nine of his ten seasons. He also coached five-straight Academic All-Americans.

In addition, Indiana State ranked among the top 40 nationally in attendance in all six seasons from 2004-2010.

Wiedie worked as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Walsh University from 1991-1992 and held the same position at Northern Kentucky University from 1992-1997. He then took on an assistant coach role at Indiana State before moving into the head position.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Wiedie graduated from Kent State University in 1988 with a degree in broadcasting communications. He also received a master's degree in sports administration from Kent in 1991.
