Oilers Picked to Finish 2nd in South Division

The University of Findlay women's basketball team was picked to finish second in the South Division of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as the league office revealed their 2011-12 preseason poll on Wednesday, November 2. 

The Oilers received a total of 152 points and ten first place votes in the poll, narrowly behind Ashland University who was picked to win the South Division with 153 points and nine first place votes.

Hillsdale was picked to finish third with 136 points and four first-place votes and Tiffin was fourth with 100 points and one first-place vote. Wayne State was fifth with 77 points, Ohio Dominican was sixth with 53 points and Lake Erie was seventh with 29 points.

In the North Division, Michigan Tech was picked first with 23 first-place votes and 174 points. Grand Valley State was selected second with one first-place votes and 145 points. In third place was Lake Superior State with 106 points, Northwood was fourth with 94 points, Ferris State was fifth with 83 points, Northern Michigan was sixth with 58 points and Saginaw Valley State was seventh with 38 points.

South Division

In addition, the league announced their annual preseason all-conference teams and senior guards Laura Bardall and Clare Aubry earned first team honors.

Bardall was a first team all-conference pick last season after averaging 14.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.  Aubry meanwhile was a second team all-league pick as a junior and averaged 15.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

The Oilers will be looking for their third straight GLIAC South Division title this season and begin their season on Friday, November 11 with a home game against Slippery Rock University.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 6 pm in Croy Gymnasium.
