Oilers Race Past Slippery Rock

The University of Findlay women's basketball team used a 13-1 run over the final five minutes to capture a 73-61 win over Slippery Rock University on Friday, November 11 in Croy Gymnasium.

Tied at 60-60 with just over five minutes to play in the game, freshman forward Lacey Kessler hit a pair of free throws before sophomore guard Saira House came up with a steal and a lay-up.  Leading 64-60 with 4:30 remaining, the Oilers surrendered a free throw to the Rock at the 4:10 mark before sophomore guard Kaleigh Kenny hit 3-of-4 from the line to push the Oilers lead to 67-61 with 3:00 minutes left.

Leading by six, junior forward Kayla Brown converted a lay-up with 1:23 remaining.  House and senior guard Clare Aubry each hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to extend the Oilers lead as they improved to 1-0 on the year with the victory.

Aubry led the team with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting.  She also added four assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block.

House and Kessler both came off the bench to contribute 13 and 12 points, respectively, with five rebounds apiece.

As a team, the Oilers shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the floor while connecting on 25-of-30 (83.3%) of their free throw attempts.

The Oilers out-scored Slippery Rock 36-18 in the paint and also held a 36-8 advantage in bench points.

Erinne Cunningham led the Rock with 18 points while Danielle Smith had eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Oilers will be back in action again on November 16 when they host Notre Dame (Ohio) at 7 pm in Croy Gymnasium.
