Oilers Open GLIAC Play Against Northwood

The University of Findlay women's basketball team will host Northwood University on Thursday, December 1.  The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) is scheduled to begin at 6 pm in Croy Gymnasium.

The Series

The Oilers currently hold a commanding 12-4 advantage in the all-time series against the Timberwolves dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when Findlay came away with a 73-51 victory.

Last season, the Oilers defeated the Timberwolves by a score of 85-64 in Midland, Michigan.

Clare Aubry scorched the nets for a career-high 34 points, the fourth highest single game total in the history of UF women's basketball. She also drained 7-of-8 three pointers on the night to tie the school record for triples in a contest, which was accomplished twice in a game by former Findlay sharpshooter Maggie Gompers.

Overall, Aubry connected on 13-of-17 shots from the floor and also added five rebounds in 28 minutes of action.

Laura Bardall also had a great game, scoring 16 points to go along with seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.

The University of Findlay

The University of Findlay women's basketball team blasted Urbana University by a score of 76-50 on Wednesday, November 23 in Croy Gymnasium to run their record to 3-1 on the year.

The Oilers shot a season-high 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the floor and scored 42 of their points in the paint.  The Oilers also racked up a season-high 23 assists on their 28 field goals and out-rebounded Urbana by a 39-29 margin.

The Oilers defense was scrappy in the win as well as they forced 26 turnovers and recorded 12 steals.

Junior forward Kayla Brown led the team with a season-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

Brown also added four assists, three steals and three assists in the game.

Senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson contributed a season-high 12 points while senior guard Clare Aubry registered 12 points and four assists.

Freshman forward Lacey Kessler came of the bench to add nine points and six rebounds while junior forward Tai Dotson chipped in eight points during the victory.

Urbana received 18 points from Ciara Geiger.

Northwood University

The Timberwolves are currently 4-1 on the year and being led by Rachel Church's 18.6 points per game.

Savannah Stedman is averaging a double-double with 16.6 points and 11.2 rebounds per game while Gabrielle Rivette is contributing 11.5 points per contest.

Defense Wins Championships

The Oilers rank fourth in the GLIAC in points allowed, giving up only 56.8 to their opponents.

Defending the Basket

The Oilers rank third in the conference in blocked shots per game at 4.5 per contest.

Individually, senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson ranks second in the GLIAC with 2.3 blocked shots per game.

Stroking 3's

Senior guard Clare Aubry is hitting 42.9 percent of her three point attempts this season, the seventh best mark in the GLIAC.

She also ranks ninth in the conference in made triples, connecting on 2.3 per contest.

Automatic from the Line

The Oilers are ranked seventh in the GLIAC in free throw shooting percentage, connecting on 72.6 percent of their attempts on the season.

Individually, junior forward Kayla Brown is ranked fourth with a free throw shooting percentage of 88.9.

Teammate Lacey Kessler, a freshman forward, checks in eighth at 85.7 percent.

Shooting a High Percentage

The Oilers are hitting 45.1 percent of their field goal attempts this year, the fourth best mark in the GLIAC.

Individually, junior forward Kayla Brown ranks seventh in the conference in field goal shooting percentage at 55.6 percent.

Dropping Dimes

The Oilers are dishing out 16.0 assists per game on the year, the fourth best total in the league.

Individually, sophomore guard Saira House ranks fifth with 4.0 assists per contest.

Senior guard Clare Aubry also shows up in the rankings at 12th with 3.0 assists per game.

Grand Theft

The Oilers are averaging 12.0 steals per game on the year, the fourth best total in the conference.

Individually, sophomore guard Saira House and junior forward Kayla Brown are tied for seventh with 2.3 steals per game.

Swatting Shots

Senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson has been swatting shots at a record pace during her career and will have the opportunity to break the school record for most blocks this season.

Nelson has blocked 133 shots during her tenure with the program and is chasing Kelly Carder, who swatted 158 shots from 1996-99.

GLIAC Preseason Poll

The Oilers were picked to finish second in the South Division of the GLIAC this season.  They received 152 votes and ten first place votes, to fall just short of Ashland University (153) in the poll.

Preseason All-GLIAC

Senior guards Laura Bardall and Clare Aubry were both picked as preseason first team all-conference in voting conducted by the coaches within the league.

Bardall was a first team all-conference pick last season after averaging 14.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. 

Aubry meanwhile was a second team all-league pick as a junior and averaged 15.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

1,000 Point Club

Senior guard Laura Bardall ranks eighth all-time at Findlay with 1,262 career points.

Bardall was injured in the Oilers exhibition game against Bowling Green State University and will not have a chance to build on her total this year.
