Oilers to Host Dragons, Panthers

The University of Findlay women's basketball team will play a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contests at home this week.  They will host Tiffin University at 6 pm on Thursday, December 15 and then welcome Ohio Dominican University to town on Saturday, December 17 for a 5:30 pm start.

The Series

The Oilers hold a commanding 36-6 advantage in the all-time series against the Dragons dating back to the 1984-85 campaign when Findlay was victorious by a score of 77-36.

The two programs split their season series last year as each squad won on their home floor.

The Oilers fell 71-51 to the Dragons on the road as Laura Bardall led the team with 17 points.

Later in the season, Findlay claimed a 59-53 win over the Dragons in Croy Gymnasium behind 18 points from Kayla Brown.

Bardall registered a double-double in the victory, scoring 16 points to go with ten boards.

Clare Aubry also reached double figures during the win as she contributed 13 points.

The Oilers hold a 10-2 advantage in the all-time series against Ohio Dominican dating back to the 1991-92 campaign when the Panthers claimed a 77-69 victory over Findlay in the NAIA District 22 playoffs.

Last season, the two programs split their season series as the Oilers claimed a 74-51 win at home before falling 62-60 on the road in Columbus, Ohio.

In the win at home, Clare Aubry led the team with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a career-high four blocks while Laura Bardall chipped in 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

In the Oilers loss on the road, Aubry led the way with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Kayla Brown added 14 points on the strength of a 10-of-10 showing from the free throw line.

Kaleigh Kenny recorded her first career double-double with ten points and ten rebounds while Bardall chipped in eight points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

The University of Findlay

The University of Findlay women's basketball team came away with a 76-50 win over Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday, December 10 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers built a 39-20 lead at the break and then cruised through the second half as they improved to 5-2 on the season with a 2-1 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers forced the Cardinals into 27 turnovers during the game, which led to 32 points for Findlay. 

They also shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the field and held the Cardinals to a mere 29.8 percent (14-of-47) shooting clip.

Senior guard Clare Aubry hit 7-of-14 shots en route to a team-high 15 points while junior forward Kayla Brown contributed 14 points and six rebounds.

Sophomore guard Karli Beasley came off the bench to score a career-high 11 points while junior forward Tai Dotson chipped in a season-high nine points to go along with three boards.

Kristen Greene paced the Cardinals with a game-high 17 points.

The Dragons sport a 5-2 record on the season with a 2-2 mark in the GLIAC.  Mandy Jaeb is scoring 13.7 points per outing while teammate Karli Mast is contributing 13.3 points per game.

Ohio Dominican University

The Panthers are currently 5-3 on the season with a 1-3 record in conference play. Abby Glover is averaging a near double-double with 12.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while Meredith Fox is clicking for 11.5 points per contest.

Defense Wins Championships

The Oilers rank third in the GLIAC in points allowed, giving up only 56.0 to their opponents.

Defending the Basket

The Oilers rank third in the conference in blocked shots per game at 4.6 per contest.

Individually, senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson ranks third in the GLIAC with 2.6 blocked shots per game.

Automatic from the Line

Senior guard Clare Aubry is also amongst the league leaders with a 85.7 percent shooting clip from the charity stripe, the eighth best mark in the GLIAC.

Junior forward Kayla Brown checks in 12th as she is hitting 81.0 percent of her attempts from the free throw line.

Shooting a High Percentage

Senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson ranks fifth with a 52.4 percent shooting clip while junior forward Kayla Brown checks in 12th with a 48.5 percent shooting clip.

As a team, the Oilers rank sixth in the GLIAC with a 42.1 percent shooting clip.

Contesting Shots

The Oilers have made life difficult for opposing teams, holding them to a mere 36.9 percent shooting clip, which ranks fifth in the league.

Dropping Dimes

The Oilers are dishing out 14.3 assists per game on the year, the fifth best total in the league.

Individually, sophomore guard Saira House ranks fifth with 4.1 assists per contest.

Grand Theft

The Oilers are averaging 13.3 steals per game on the year, the second best total in the conference.

Individually, junior forward Kayla Brown ranks third with 2.7 steals per contest.

Sophomore guard Saira House is ranked sixth with 2.4 steals per game as well.

Putting Points on the Board

Junior forward Kayla Brown is leading the team and ranks 13th in the GLIAC with a 13.3 points per game average.

Teammate Clare Aubry also shows up amongst the league leaders and is ranked 15th with a 12.9 points per game average.

Swatting Shots

Senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson has been swatting shots at a record pace during her career and will have the opportunity to break the school record for most blocks this season.

Nelson has blocked 142 shots during her tenure with the program and is chasing Kelly Carder, who swatted 158 shots from 1996-99.

GLIAC Preseason Poll

The Oilers were picked to finish second in the South Division of the GLIAC this season.  They received 152 votes and ten first place votes, to fall just short of Ashland University (153) in the poll.

Preseason All-GLIAC

Senior guards Laura Bardall and Clare Aubry were both picked as preseason first team all-conference in voting conducted by the coaches within the league.

Bardall was a first team all-conference pick last season after averaging 14.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. 

Aubry meanwhile was a second team all-league pick as a junior and averaged 15.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

1,000 Point Club

Senior guard Laura Bardall ranks eighth all-time at Findlay with 1,262 career points.

Bardall was injured in the Oilers exhibition game against Bowling Green State University and will not have a chance to build on her total this year.
