Warriors Knock Off Oilers 75-72 in Overtime

The University of Findlay women's basketball team suffered a 75-72 overtime defeat at the hands of Wayne State University on Saturday, January 7 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers, who fell to 9-5 on the season with a 3-4 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), went scoreless the final 2:40 of regulation and missed two shots in the final ten seconds of overtime as they dropped their second straight game.

Wayne State shot 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the floor while the Oilers were only able to connect on 36.6 percent (26-of-71) of their shots.

The Oilers did however force 24 turnovers and convert 13-of-16 (81.3%) shots from the free throw line.

Senior guard Clare Aubry led the team after scoring a season-high 23 points on 7-of-18 shooting.

The Upper Sandusky native connected on 4-of-7 three point shots and also hit 5-of-6 attempts from the free throw line in the game.

Junior forward Kayla Brown contributed 11 points, four rebounds and four steals while red-shirt freshman forward Carlay Stahl had 11 points off the bench, finishing a perfect 4-of-4 from the field.

Sophomore guard Ashley Andrews came off the bench to provide a spark with four points, a season-high seven assists and three steals while junior forward Tai Dotson provided nine points and six rebounds off the pine.

The Warriors were led by Paige Sickmiller's 19 points.

Juanita Cochran was a force down low for Wayne State as well, scoring 14 points to go along with 14 rebounds.

The Oilers will look to snap their skid on January 12 when they travel to Painesville, Ohio to face Lake Erie College at 6 pm.
