Oilers Bite Huskies 73-65

The University of Findlay women's basketball team remained undefeated on the season with a 73-65 win against Michigan Technological University on Thursday, Dec. 6 in Houghton, Mich.

The Oilers, who improved to 5-0 on the season with a 3-0 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, fell behind 43-42 at the half and trailed by the same one-point margin at 55-54 with 12 minutes to play in the game. 

Trailing by one, the Oilers went on a 10-0 run in the next eight minutes to build a 64-55 lead with just over four minutes to play.  The lead proved too much for the Huskies to overcome as the Oilers ended the game by making 6-of-8 attempts from the free throw line down the stretch.

The Oilers shot 46.8 percent (22-of-47) from the floor and drained 8-of-12 (66.7%) attempts from behind the three point line. 

In comparison, the Oilers held the Huskies to a 38.6 percent (22-of-57) shooting clip in the win.

Senior forward Kayla Brown led the charge with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting.  She also added four assists, two rebounds, a steal and a block.

Junior guard Ashley Andrews had a season-high 14 points, hitting all four of her shots from behind the three point line, while senior forward Tai Dotson had ten points and four boards.

Junior forward Kaleigh Kenny came off the bench to provide nine points and three rebounds while senior guard Kendra Elam also provided a spark from the bench, scoring nine points.

The Huskies were led by Kylie Moxley's 15 points.

The Oilers will now prepare to battle Northern Michigan University on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. in Marquette, Mich.
