Oilers Come Up Short Against Bulldogs

The University of Findlay women's basketball team was defeated by Ferris State University on Saturday, Dec. 15 as they fell 68-66 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers, who saw their record fall to 5-2 on the year with a 3-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), trailed by one at 65-64 with only 1:18 remaining.  Junior guard Ashley Andrews then hit a pair of shots from the free throw line to give Findlay a 66-65 lead, but Ferris State's Sarah DeShone hit a jumper a few seconds later to put the Bulldogs out in front by a score of 67-66.

After a missed three by senior forward Kayla Brown, Ferris State's Kylie Muntz split a pair of free throw attempts to make the score 68-66 with only five seconds remaining.  The Oilers then were unable to get a shot off in the final five seconds as they dropped their second straight game.

The Oilers shot only 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the floor, but did hit 43.5 percent (10-of-23) of their triple tries.  Findlay also connected on 69.2 percent (18-of-26) of their free throw attempts and registered 13 steals in the game.

The Bulldogs hit 41.7 percent (25-of-60) of their shot attempts and held a 42-33 advantage on the boards.

Brown led the Oilers with 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals while senior guard Kendra Elam and freshman guard Alyssa Grevenkamp chipped in 12 points apiece.

The Bulldogs were led by DeShone's 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Oilers will welcome Grand Valley State University to town on Monday, Dec. 17 for an 8 p.m. contest in their next game.
