Dotson, Brown Key Oilers Win Over Lakers

The University of Findlay women's basketball team claimed a 61-53 win over Grand Valley State University on Monday, Dec. 17 in Croy Gymnasium.  The win, which featured ten ties and ten lead changes, gives the Oilers a 6-2 record on the year with a 4-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers found themselves down 49-48 with just under four minutes to play in the game.  Then senior forwards Tai Dotson and Kayla Brown took over and guided the Oilers to the victory.

Dotson gave the Oilers a 50-49 lead with 3:30 left when she scored on a short shot off of an assist by Brown.  She then split a pair of free throws on the Oilers next offensive possession before converting a three point play in the paint at the 2:39 mark.  The run gave Findlay a 54-49 lead as they regained momentum.

After a bucket by the Lakers, Brown scored on a drive to give the Oilers a 56-51 advantage with 59 seconds left.  Dotson then split a pair of free throws after a turnover by the Lakers to make the score 57-51 with only 35 ticks showing on the clock.

Senior guard Kendra Elam and freshman forward Margaret Wuebker then hit two free throws apiece down the stretch to seal the game.

Dotson led the way with a career-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting.  She also tallied seven rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

Brown added 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals while Wuebker had six points and four boards in the win.

The Oilers shot 40.4 percent (19-of-47) from the floor and held the Lakers to a mere 34 percent (18-of-53) shooting clip.  They also out-rebounded the Lakers by a 38-29 margin and hit 21-of-28 (75%) shots from the free throw line in the game.

Findlay will now have one day to prepare for their next game as they will travel to Urbana, Ohio to take on Urbana University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
